JIMMY'S FARM VEGETABLE GARDEN
JIMMY'S FARM VEGETABLE GARDEN

Caela's Vegetable Garden started life as the original cow paddock where the dairy cows would emerge after milking.  This has provided it with years of natural farmyard manure which has made it a prime location to situate Caela's Organic Vegetable Garden.

There is a remarkable Ornamental Border that gives the garden a great depth and is reminicient of the Italian 'ORTO.'  By integrating ornamental flowers into our vegetable patch not only attracts bees for natural pollination but also adds incredible colour and interest throughout the season.  Equally, you will feel like you are in a novel by Jane Austen as you wander gently down this impressive avenue.

We are blessed with a great depth of top soil in the garden which drains brilliantly to prevent our precious produce from blight. This truly is a vegetable gardener's dream plot!

Caela has worked her magic and last year we produced our first crops and sold them in our farm shop and at our Farmer's Markets. The produce proved very popular - the perfect accompaniment to all our delicious meats. We can even tell you exactly how many steps you take from the field to the shop - talk about low food miles!

Our Natural Veggies

The vegetable garden this year will be slightly different, as we will be following old-fashioned crop rotation methods. For those who are unfamiliar with this idea, we rotate crops to give the soil time to recover from the demands of the previous year's crop.

This helps to deter the risk of disease and improving the quality of the produce. We follow organic methods, so our veggies are as natural as we can make them on the farm!

This year we are using Fothergills organic vegetable seeds and Seeds of Italy. If you have a little space at home, why not have a go yourself?  We would love to hear about your experiences in becoming a vegetable grower.

In addition to our vegetables, we are also growing flowers for cut flower arrangements, strawberries and fruits.  Not forgetting our extremely popular herbs.  We keep our own butchery and field kitchen in supply of herbs for all of their delicious recipes.
