Whether you are interested in keeping chickens, bee keeping, starting a small holding, growing vegetables or learning butchery skills and cookery, Jimmy's farm have a number of courses available, designed to share our knowledge and expertise. Most of the courses cover full days and can be adapted for all ages and skill sets and make perfect gifts. Thes courses can also be adapted for corporate team building. Most of our courses are full one day events and include a light lunch and refreshments.
COOKERY MASTERCLASSES
KID'S COOKERY CLUB:
Have you got an aspiring chef at home? Then bring them along to Jimmy's Cookery Club! Due to demand we have now increased the number of classes you can attend. The 10am until 11.30am session is suitable for 5 - 10 year olds and the 12.30pm until 2.00pm is suitable for 11 - 15 year olds. Regardless of business or pleasure, every square inch of soil counts, we will show you how to make the most of it. Consideration will be given to, location, climate, topography, soil types and the four seasons. Pigs Tails
From tail to snout, all aspects of pig keeping will be catered for. Although as hardy as they seem, the grunters are surprisingly delicate. We will be covering purchasing, feeding, housing, husbandry and breeding, all you need to know. Included in our day is a behind the scene tour of our pigs, and a pig handling session. Woolly Jumpers
Whether you have one ewe, or a thousand sheep, the principles are the same. Throughout the day we will cover all aspects of flock management, from breed selection, to breeding itself. Keeping sheep is a demanding task, but we can show you how to simplify the flock. Included in the day is a tour of the farm’s flock and a sheep handling session. May 1st 2012
Feathered Fancy
Garden hens to small egg enterprises, we’ve got it covered! Husbandry, housing and bird selection are vital points to get right. Under the microscope, we will discuss egg production, meat production and breeding. Let’s face it; there is nothing more satisfying than collecting your eggs. August 8th 2012
Tractor Factor (1)
Using Kubota Tractors, your day will travel through the tractor parts, pre start checks, linkages and operation. You will have the pleasure of three machines, mini horticultural, large farm loader tractor and a RTV rough terrain buggy. Safe operation and understanding is the key to the day. Tractor Factor (2) This day follows the completion of the beginner’s day. The focus will be pointed directly onto implement operation and set up. Using rollers, ploughs and cultivators you gain direct experience in preparing land for growing your own. April 3rd 2012 June 1st 2012 Making Money From Your Wares
Cottage industry is the dream, but a scary one! Adding value to your wares is the key to success. Jimmy’s Farm is a master class at this concept. Drilling into marketing, sales techniques, packaging and processing your dreams will come alive. This course is about making money! March 2nd 2012
The courses are written and run by TV’s Agricultural Expert Dave Finkle. Appearances include, Countryfile, Fern Britton Show, and Blue Peter.
Dave shot through the agricultural ranks to become a highly regarded and respected expert within the Agricultural and Rural scene. Whilst filming for BBC2’s A Farmers Life For Me, Dave met Jimmy Doherty. At that time Dave was an Agricultural Lecturer. They hit it off from the moment they met! The rest is history, Dave is now the Farm Manager at Jimmy’s Farm. Plenty of challenges and projects are in the mix keeping him on his toes.
